Using the VMware Capacity Planner, our assessment service is an accurate, bench-marked process based on industry best practices and procedures including:

• Discovery and inventory of all servers that are candidates for consolidation and virtualization.
• Capture and analysis of all server traffic to determine capacity and performance metrics.
• Creation of consolidation and virtualization recommendations, including financial.
• TCO/ROI analysis. 
• Generation and delivery of a final report that includes all findings and recommendations.

• A better understanding of how your environment has performed in the past and is performing now.
• A clear view of your virtualization options based on your preferred ESX host platform(s).  Options for each configuration include how many servers are candidates for virtualization, the number of servers that can be virtualized on each ESX host, and placement options for those servers on the ESX hosts.

Requirements:

The following criteria must be met in order to gain maximum benefit from this service:

• A dedicated Windows machine (physical or virtual) that we will install and run the data collection application on.
• Account login and passwords for all machines that must be analyzed.  Al account information will be stored in encrypted formats on a local machine within your environment.
• Identification of all physical x86-based servers to be analyzed, including an electronic lost of all server host names.
• All identified physical x86-based servers must be running a current version of either Windows or Linux.
• The machine running the VMware Capacity Planner data collector application will need network access through specific ports to all machines being analyzed.
• The machine running the VMware Capacity Planner data collector application will need external network access tot he Internet to upload to the VMware Capacity Planner Data Warehouse.
